MONEY usually isn’t funny business, but South Coast school students are in for a treat as a comedic financial literacy tour takes to the coast.
The Showdown at Two Bob Billabong tour stopped at Mount Terry Public School, Albion Park, on Monday, June 15, as part of a tour teaching students about money, its uses, why we should save and how we can save.
The tour is a joint venture between the Horizon Credit Union and The National Theatre for Children (NTC).
It is a “curriculum-aligned” five-minute performance by two actors in a “theatrical, energetic and fun” format.
NTC Australia managing director Tobias Benn said their research had shown that when kids laughed they learned so much and were more willing and enthusiastic to share that information.
The performance is supplemented by student workbooks filled with activities and educational games, teacher guides to be used in the classroom and interactive digital learning materials that reinforce the educational points.
Horizon chief executive Jon Stanfield said “establishing good savings habits at a young age was a priceless skill that can be carried through to adulthood”.
The tour began on Monday and will visit schools in Albion Park, Thirroul, Austinmer, Nowra, Bega and Merimbula.
